When a provider changes its page during setup

How the Setup extension finds its way when a button moves or is renamed

Updated 26 October 2026

Google and DNS hosts change their pages from time to time. When the extension cannot find what a step looks for, it asks SpamCipher for another way, such as the same button under its new name, or a few clicks back to the right page. It costs you nothing, and the setup carries on.

Note: This is free. It never uses your credits.

Before you start

  • A setup that is running for your domain

What happens

Step 1: The step looks for another way

  • The setup screen says it is looking for another way. The extension sends an outline of the page, with your domain, addresses, codes and anything you typed taken out.
  • An AI model suggests the same action on the page as it is now, or up to four clicks around the provider's own site to get back to the right page.

Step 2: It may ask to look at the page

This step happens outside SpamCipher.

  • If the outline is not enough, the setup screen asks to take one picture of the page. Click the SpamCipher Setup icon in Chrome's toolbar to allow it. It is under the puzzle piece icon if it is not pinned.
  • Form fields, addresses and anything private are covered before the picture is taken. If you leave it, the setup carries on without a picture.

Step 3: SpamCipher checks the suggestion first

  • A suggestion never goes near billing, payments, transfers, nameservers, users, passwords or signing out, and never presses a button that deletes or revokes anything. The extension checks this again before it acts.
  • Whether the step worked is still decided by your DNS and the provider's own page, never by the suggestion.

Step 4: The next setup is faster

  • A way that works is remembered for that step, so your next setup at the same provider uses it straight away. Once it has worked more than once, setups at that provider for other customers use it too. Only the step is remembered, never your page or anything on it.

If it still cannot find its way

Step 5: The step stops and says why

  • The step stops with what it was looking for. Press Start again once the page is back to normal, or do that step yourself from Your turn.
