When setup says Your turn
What to do when the Setup extension needs you for a step
Updated 26 October 2026
Most of a setup runs by itself. A few steps need you, because only you can sign in or type a code. When that happens the bell rings, the setup screen shows Your turn with exactly what to do, and its button takes you to the right tab. The setup carries on by itself once it is done.
Note: SpamCipher never sees your passwords or codes. You type them on the provider's own page.
Before you start
- A setup that is running for your domain
- About 3 minutes
At a provider
Step 1: Sign in
This step happens outside SpamCipher.
- The extension's tab shows the provider's sign-in page, for example Google Admin or your DNS host. Sign in there.
- If you have more than one Google account, sign in with the one that manages this domain in Google Admin.
Step 2: GoDaddy asks for a code
This step happens outside SpamCipher.
- GoDaddy sends a one-time code each time an access key is made. Type it on GoDaddy's page.
Step 3: Spaceship asks for your password
This step happens outside SpamCipher.
- Spaceship asks your account password each time an API key is made. Type it on Spaceship's page.
Step 4: Google asks you to confirm it is you
This step happens outside SpamCipher.
- Google Admin sometimes asks for your password again before an admin page opens. Type it, and the setup carries on.
On the setup screen
Step 5: A record to add yourself
- When a record cannot be added for you, Your turn shows its type, name and value, each with a Copy button, and a link to your host's DNS page.
- If a record of that kind is already there, change it rather than add a second one.
Step 6: Reconnect a mailbox for the test message
- The test message is sent from a mailbox on your domain. If Google or Microsoft stopped letting SpamCipher into it, Your turn says to sign in to it again with Connect account on Email Accounts.
Step 7: Waiting on Google
- Right after a new DKIM record, Google may say it is not verified yet. The step waits and checks again in 30 minutes, and the bell rings once when it is due. There is nothing to do.
Troubleshooting
I did my turn but nothing moved.
Open the domain's setup screen. If the extension's tab was closed, press Continue on the setup screen and it picks up where it stopped.
