Why did my mailbox disconnect, and how to reconnect it

Find out why SpamCipher stopped using a mailbox, and connect it again

Updated 10 October 2026

SpamCipher stops using a mailbox when Google or Microsoft no longer lets it in. This happens when the account's password changes, when someone removes SpamCipher's access in the account settings, when your admin blocks SpamCipher, or when the account is deleted or suspended. SpamCipher pauses the mailbox, says why on its card, and sends you a notification that starts with Reconnect. Connect the same address again and it sends again.

Before you start

  • Access to the account that stopped, to sign in again or create a new app password
  • About 3 minutes

Find the mailbox that stopped

Step 1: Open Email Accounts

  • In the left menu, point to the paper plane icon to open Outreach.
  • Click Email Accounts.

Step 2: Look under Needs attention

  • Near the top of the page, Needs attention lists every mailbox that stopped, with the reason.
  • Click it to jump to that mailbox.

Step 3: Read the reason on the card

  • The card says Paused, and the reason is written below it.
  • If the reason says your admin blocked SpamCipher, ask them to allow it again. For Google, once it is Trusted again, click Resume. For Microsoft, reconnect the mailbox once it is allowed.
  • For any other reason, reconnect the mailbox as shown below.

Reconnect the mailbox

Step 4: Start a new connection

  • Click + Add new in the top right.

Step 5: Choose the same kind of account

  • Click the provider you used before, Google, Microsoft or Any provider.

Step 6: Connect the same address again

  • Type the address of the paused mailbox exactly as the card shows it, and click Continue.
  • Finish the same way you first connected it. Sign in again, or paste a new app password.
  • When it reconnects, the mailbox is no longer paused and starts sending again.

Troubleshooting

I clicked Resume and it paused again

Resume only helps when your admin has allowed SpamCipher again. If the password changed or access was removed, SpamCipher still cannot sign in, so it pauses the mailbox again. Reconnect it instead.

I reconnected and now I have two accounts

You connected a different address. SpamCipher keeps one account per address, so connect the exact address shown on the paused card, then delete the one you do not need.

Will reconnecting change my settings?

Signing in again keeps the mailbox's daily cap and sending hours. Reconnecting with an app password saves the values shown under Sending plan in the panel, so check them before you click Connect account.

The card says the account no longer exists or is suspended

Google or Microsoft says the account was deleted or suspended. Reconnecting will not work until the account is active again. If it is gone for good, delete the mailbox.

The card says whole-domain or whole-organisation access was removed

Ask an admin to connect the domain or organisation again, or reconnect this mailbox by signing in with it.

My account uses an app password and the card says Warm-up isn't running

If it says SpamCipher could not sign in to the mailbox, the app password stopped working. Google deletes app passwords when you change your Google password. Create a new app password and connect the same address again with it.
