How to import your own list, and check it first

Paste or upload the people you already have into a campaign, and let SpamCipher check the addresses before any email goes out

Updated 11 October 2026

If you already have a list of people, bring it into a campaign on the Leads tab. You can paste the addresses, upload a CSV or text file, pick a list you checked earlier, or pull a list from your email tool. With Verify emails before sending ticked, SpamCipher checks every address for free before it sends, so bad addresses never bounce from your mailbox.

Note: Checking imported leads is free. An address that fails the check is marked and never emailed; one the check cannot settle waits until it is checked again.
Note: Columns: a column of email addresses is enough. If your file has first name, last name and company columns, they fill {{first_name}}, {{last_name}} and {{company}} in your emails. A header row is fine.
Note: People already in another campaign, anywhere in the workspace, in a list you choose, or suppressed in another campaign can be skipped on import, so nobody hears from you twice.

Before you start

  • A campaign, even a draft
  • Your list as a CSV or TXT file, or the addresses ready to paste
  • About 5 minutes

Add the people

Step 1: Open the campaign's Leads tab

  • In the left menu, point to the paper plane icon to open Outreach, click Campaigns, then click the campaign.
  • Click the Leads tab.

Step 2: Choose how to add them

  • Paste takes addresses typed or pasted straight in. Upload file takes a CSV or TXT file. Saved list takes a list you checked under Email Validation. ESP pulls a list from your connected email tool.

Step 3: Paste the addresses

  • Paste one person per line. An address on its own works; add the first name, last name and company after it, separated by commas, to fill the personalization fields.

Step 4: Or upload a file

  • Click Upload file, then Choose .csv or .txt file and pick the file.
  • SpamCipher reads it and says how many addresses it found before anything is imported.

Check them, then import

Step 5: Leave the check on, and choose who to skip

  • Keep Verify emails before sending ticked. Every imported address is checked for free before it is sent to.
  • Skip people already in another campaign stops you emailing someone twice. The options below it skip people anywhere in the workspace, in a list you pick, or suppressed in another campaign.

Step 6: Import them

  • Click Import leads. A summary says how many were added and how many were skipped, and why.

Step 7: Watch the check run

  • Each person is listed with a Verify state and a Status.
  • Unverified means the check has not run yet. It becomes Verified, or Invalid for an address that would bounce, within a few minutes.
  • Pending means the person is waiting for the campaign to send. Once the campaign is live and the address is verified, the first email goes out at the next slot.

Troubleshooting

The file was not read

Save it as CSV or TXT with one person per line. If it came from a spreadsheet, export the sheet as CSV and make sure the email column has a header or is the first column.

Fewer people were imported than I pasted

The summary says why. Duplicates within the list are imported once, and people skipped by the options you ticked are not added. Untick an option and import again to add them.

Everyone is stuck on Unverified

The check runs in the background and takes a few minutes for a long list. If it has been an hour, open Email Validation and check that you have credits left; a workspace with none cannot run checks, even free ones.

I checked the list under Email Validation already

Use Saved list. In Email Validation, open the finished check and click Save as lead; it then appears under Saved list here, already verified.
