How to connect a Google Workspace account
Connect an inbox on your own domain by signing in with Google, after your admin approves SpamCipher once
Updated 10 October 2026
A Google Workspace account is an email address on your own domain that Google hosts. SpamCipher connects it when you sign in with Google. Before anyone at your company can sign in, a Workspace admin marks SpamCipher Mail Connect as Trusted in Google Admin. It takes a minute and is done once for the whole organization. Once connected, SpamCipher sends from the inbox and brings its replies into your Unibox.
Before you start
- An email address on your own domain that uses Google Workspace
- A Google Workspace admin who can manage app access, or that access yourself
- About 10 minutes
Start the connection in SpamCipher
Step 1: Open Email Accounts
- In the left menu, point to the paper plane icon to open Outreach.
- Click Email Accounts.
Step 2: Start a new connection
- Click + Add new in the top right.
- A panel opens on the right with the kinds of account you can connect.
Step 3: Choose Google
- Click Google.
Step 4: Enter your work address
- Type your work address under Google address.
- Click Continue.
- SpamCipher checks how your mail is hosted. For a Google Workspace address, it shows the ways you can connect.
Step 5: Choose Sign in with Google
- Click Sign in with Google.
- The panel shows the steps for your admin and the client ID they need.
Ask your admin to approve SpamCipher
Step 6: Send the steps to your admin
- Click Email these steps to my admin to open an email with the steps and the client ID, ready to send.
- Or click Copy to copy the client ID and send it yourself.
Step 7: Mark SpamCipher Mail Connect as Trusted
This step happens outside SpamCipher.
- The admin signs in at admin.google.com.
- They open Security, then Access and data control, then API controls, then Manage App Access.
- They click Configure new app and search for the client ID. Searching by name does not find it.
- They choose SpamCipher Mail Connect, set it for all users or the group that sends, and set access to Trusted.

Step 8: Sign in
- Back in SpamCipher, click My admin has approved it. Sign in with Google.
- If you use booking pages, tick Also read my calendar first, so they skip the times you are busy.
Step 9: Allow access in Google
This step happens outside SpamCipher.
- Google opens. Sign in with the address you are connecting.
- Allow the access SpamCipher asks for, and leave the Gmail permission ticked.
- Google takes you back to Email Accounts. It says Connected with your address, and the account appears on the page.
Troubleshooting
It says my admin has not trusted SpamCipher yet
Your admin has not marked SpamCipher Mail Connect as Trusted, or trusted it for a different group of people. Send them the steps again, wait a few minutes, then sign in again.
It says SpamCipher needs full access to the mailbox
Sign in again and leave the Gmail permission ticked. SpamCipher needs it to send, read replies and run warm-up.
The panel showed the IMAP and SMTP form instead
Your domain does not receive mail through Google Workspace, so SpamCipher showed the form for other providers. Check the address. If your mail is hosted somewhere else, follow How to connect any inbox with SMTP and IMAP.
It says personal Gmail addresses connect with an app password
Addresses that end in @gmail.com do not sign in with Google here. Follow How to connect a Gmail account.
My admin will not approve SpamCipher
In Step 5, choose Use an app password instead. It connects one mailbox without your admin, as long as 2-Step Verification is on for that Google account.
