Suppressions: who never gets emailed

The addresses and domains SpamCipher will not send to, how they get there, and how to add your own

Updated 11 October 2026

A suppression is an address or a whole domain that no campaign in the workspace will ever email again. Unsubscribes and hard bounces are added on their own. You add the rest: customers, partners, competitors, anyone who asked you to stop. Every import and every send checks the list first.

Note: Four reasons: Unsubscribe (they clicked the link), Hard bounce (the address does not exist), Complaint (they marked you as spam) and Manual (you added it).
Note: A domain suppresses every address at it. Suppress competitor.example and nobody at that company is emailed, whatever list they arrive in.
Note: Suppressions are for the whole workspace. A campaign can also skip anyone suppressed in another campaign, on its Leads tab.

Before you start

  • About 4 minutes

See who is suppressed

Step 1: Open Suppressions

  • In the left menu, point to the paper plane icon to open Outreach.
  • Click Suppressions.

Step 2: Read the list

  • The console counts suppressions by reason. The list below shows each one with its Type (an address or a whole domain), its Reason and when it was added.
  • A hard bounce shows the reason the receiving server gave. Search by address or domain, or filter by reason.

Add your own

Step 3: Add one address or domain

  • Click + Add suppression.
  • Type the address, or a domain to cover everyone at it, choose Email or Domain under Type, and a Reason.
  • Click Add. It applies to every campaign from the next send.

Step 4: Import a list

  • Click Import and paste the addresses, one per line, with a Reason for all of them. A do-not-contact list from your CRM goes in here in one go.

Step 5: Export, or remove one

  • Click Export for a CSV of the whole list, to keep or to load into another tool.
  • Click the cross at the end of a row to remove a manual suppression. A hard bounce has a lock instead: it cannot be removed, because the address does not exist.

Troubleshooting

Someone suppressed is still in a campaign

Suppression stops sends, not list membership. The person stays listed in the campaign with a suppressed status and gets nothing. Delete them from the Leads tab if you want them gone from the list too.

An address bounced once and is now locked

Only a hard bounce (the address does not exist) is locked. A soft bounce (a full mailbox, a server busy) is retried and not suppressed. If the address was mistyped, add the right one to the campaign.

I want one campaign to email a suppressed person anyway

Suppressions are workspace-wide on purpose and cannot be skipped per campaign. Remove the suppression, send, then add it back.
